Circle Introduces Circle Paymaster: A Game-Changer for Stablecoin Users
Circle, a leading stablecoin issuer, has launched a new feature called Circle Paymaster, enabling users to pay gas fees using the USDC stablecoin. This on-chain utility solution is now live on Arbitrum and Base, two prominent Ethereum layer-2 solutions.
What is Circle Paymaster?
Traditionally, users in the crypto market need to pay transaction fees using a chain’s native token, such as Ether. This can lead to transaction failures when users don’t have sufficient funds to cover gas fees. Circle Paymaster removes this challenge by allowing users to pay with USDC, eliminating the need to hold native tokens.
This feature is permissionless and composable, making it compatible with any wallet that supports the ERC-4337 token standard. This means developers can seamlessly integrate Circle Paymaster into their applications.
Benefits of Circle Paymaster
With Circle Paymaster, users can enjoy a more convenient and efficient way to pay gas fees. Here are some benefits of using this feature:
- Use USDC to pay for gas fees, eliminating the need for native tokens.
- Permissionless and composable, making it easy to integrate with any compatible wallet.
- Reduced risk of transaction failures due to insufficient gas fees.
How it Works with Gas Station
Circle’s launch of Paymaster adds to the company’s Gas Station offering. While Paymaster users utilize their USDC to pay for gas fees, Gas Station allows developers to pay for gas costs for users. This feature provides a gasless experience for users across decentralized applications.
Developers can sign up for the Gas Station feature, which works with Circle’s programmable wallets and requires a Circle Console account.
Expansion Plans and Fees
Circle plans to expand access to Paymaster beyond Arbitrum and Base in the coming months, with additional networks including Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon PoS.
Transaction charges across Paymaster will be 10% of gas fees per transaction. However, Circle is waiving this charge until June 30, 2025, to incentivize adoption.
