Three Compelling Reasons to Consider Bitcoin ETFs in 2025

According to Jay Jacobs, Head of Thematics and Alternative ETFs at BlackRock, investors should consider adopting Bitcoin ETFs in 2025 due to the rapid growth of these investment vehicles. Jacobs highlighted the rapid development of crypto asset adoption, which has managed to surpass the adoption rates of mobile phones and the internet.

The Rapid Growth of Crypto Adoption

A recent study by BlackRock found that it took mobile phone adoption 21 years to reach 300 million users, while the internet took 15 years to achieve the same milestone. In contrast, crypto asset adoption reached the same milestone in just 12 years. This rapid growth is attributed to Bitcoin’s global and decentralized nature, which gives it the potential to be viewed as a global monetary alternative.

β€œBitcoin’s global and decentralized nature gives it the potential to be viewed as a global monetary alternative that may benefit from global disorder and declining trust in institutions and government-issued fiat currencies.”

Overcoming Complexity with Bitcoin ETFs

While some investors may be hesitant to invest in Bitcoin due to complexities such as opening crypto trading accounts, high fees, and security challenges, Jacobs believes that ETFs can provide a convenient gateway for traditional investors to access Bitcoin. The launch of the iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) aims to make exposure to Bitcoin easier for all investors.

β€œDespite rising bitcoin adoption, direct investing in bitcoin presents unique complexities for investors. That’s why we launched IBIT β€” the iShares Bitcoin ETF β€” to make exposure to bitcoin easier for all.”

Benefits of Bitcoin ETFs

BlackRock highlights three key benefits of Bitcoin ETFs:

  • Trading Convenience: Bitcoin ETFs can be traded on traditional brokerage platforms alongside other investment instruments such as bonds, conventional stocks, and other ETFs.
  • Eliminating Obstacles: Bitcoin ETFs eliminate the obstacles faced by investors who wish to invest in Bitcoin without directly purchasing the digital asset on crypto exchanges.
  • Optimized Security: The partnership between BlackRock and Coinbase Prime ensures that investors can optimize the advantages of IBIT, making bitcoin exposure available to more investors through the convenience, efficiency, and familiarity of an ETF.

Investor Interest in Bitcoin ETFs

As reported earlier, BlackRock’s IBIT was the only Bitcoin ETF that recorded an inflow of $29.46 million, while the majority of Bitcoin ETFs saw outflows or reported no flows at all.
