Vitalik Buterin appears to have sold 10 billion MOODENG tokens and donated over $640,000 worth of crypto to his biotech charity fund.

Vitalik Buterin’s Crypto Sale and Donation

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has sold 10 billion MOODENG tokens, channeling the proceeds to his biotech fund, Kanro. This move aligns with his advocacy for memecoins to generate positive impacts through charitable contributions.

According to on-chain data from blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain, the sale generated 308.69 ETH, approximately valued at $762,000. Out of this, Buterin donated 260.16 ETH, around $642,000, to his biotech fund Kanro.

I appreciate all the memecoins that donate portions of their supply directly to charity. Anything that gets sent to me gets donated to charity too (thanks moodeng! The 10B from today is going to anti-airborne-disease technology.

Following the trade, Buterin addressed the sale on social media, expressing his support for memecoins that contribute to charitable causes. He emphasized that any tokens sent to him are donated to charity, including the MOODENG tokens, which he allocated to anti-airborne disease technology.

Market Reaction and Impact

Despite Buterin’s clarification, the sale caused concern among crypto holders, resulting in a 20% drop in MOODENG’s price to $0.10.

Kanro, co-founded by Buterin, aims to direct resources towards pandemic solutions, especially in low-income countries. The fund focuses on open-source or IP-free projects. In November 2023, Kanro donated $15 million to the PolyBio Research Foundation to enhance research and clinical trials on SARS-CoV-2.
