US Government Moves Seized Cryptocurrencies to New Wallets
The US government has transferred billions of dollars’ worth of cryptocurrencies, seized from various companies, including FTX, to new wallets. According to recent data, the government moved several cryptocurrencies seized in the FTX Alameda cases, which collapsed due to mismanagement of funds in November 2022.
Recent Transfers
The first cryptocurrency to be moved was 54.8 billion Shiba Inu (SHIB), valued at approximately $1.55 million. Later, the government also transferred $17.2 million worth of Ethereum (ETH) to a different wallet. Other cryptocurrencies moved include:
- 13.5 million Binance USD (BUSD)
- $36,070 worth of Axie Infinity (AXS)
- $296,000 worth of other cryptocurrencies, including:
- $106,430 of Compound (COMP)
- $93,950 of Numeraire (NMR)
- $50,710 of Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC)
- $47,350 of Yearn Finance (YFI)
Previous Transfers
This move is not an isolated incident, as the US government has made similar transfers throughout the year. In a recent instance, nearly $2 billion worth of Bitcoin (BTC) was moved into new wallets at different times. The first wallet received $969 million in Bitcoin, while the other received $949 million.
Additionally, almost $1 billion worth of Bitcoin was transferred from 33Tg to Coinbase Prime on the same day. These wallets received the seized Bitcoin from the Silk Road cases in November 2022.
US Government’s Crypto Holdings
The US government has recorded a total of $19.48 billion in digital assets, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, WBTC, and BNB among the largest cryptocurrencies held.
