Former President Donald Trump has announced his intention to position the U.S. as a global leader in cryptocurrency if he is elected. On August 29, Trump outlined his plan to make America the “crypto capital of the planet” as blockchain and digital assets become increasingly prominent in U.S. political campaigns.

Trump’s announcement also mentioned the World Liberty Financial initiative, led by his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. While details about the project remain limited, there are speculations that it involves real-world assets and tokenization. The Trump sons have warned crypto enthusiasts to be cautious of scams and imitators via the project’s official Telegram channel, which boasts over 53,000 subscribers. Trump has yet to specify his level of involvement in World Liberty Financial or the initiative’s goals.

During a May gala, Donald Trump first presented himself as a supporter of the cryptocurrency industry, making pro-crypto statements to attract web3 voters. His positive stance on crypto continued at the July Bitcoin 2024 conference, where he promised to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve and dismiss Gary Gensler, the current Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Although the odds of Trump winning against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris have varied recently, the cryptocurrency community appears to favor Trump and his proposed policies. Additionally, a Bitcoin bill introduced by Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis from Wyoming has gained traction in the Senate. Similar to Trump’s plan, Lummis’ proposal aims to utilize America’s existing gold certificates and convert them into a two-decade Bitcoin holding strategy.
