Telegram Introduces Collectible Gifts in 2025 Update

Telegram, a popular messaging service, has started 2025 with a significant update, enabling users to upgrade gifts to collectible non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that can be traded on third-party marketplaces.

The update was announced in a blog post on January 1, detailing the new feature. Users can now upgrade gifts sent or received on the platform to “collectibles,” which come with unique designs, secondary traits, and varying levels of rarity. Over 1,400 gift variations are already available, including “Homemade Cake” and “Jelly Bunny,” with plans for expansion in the future.

β€œWhen you upgrade a gift it unlocks a new appearance from dozens of custom variations made by Telegram artists. Collectibles also receive a random set of secondary traits, including a background color, icon and number.”

Upgrading and Trading Collectibles

Upgrading gifts to collectibles requires Telegram Stars, virtual items used to purchase digital goods and services within the Telegram ecosystem. These Stars cover blockchain fees associated with the upgrade process. Once upgraded, users can transfer collectibles to others or auction them on NFT marketplaces.

Additional Features in the Update

Besides the collectible gifts feature, the update includes:

  • Reactions to service messages, such as notifications triggered when someone sends a gift, joins a group, or starts a video chat.
  • Filters for message searches, enabling users to narrow results by private chats, groups, or channels.
