Decentralized messaging platform Status and zero-knowledge-powered layer-2 blockchain Linea are working together to develop a new rollup solution named Status Network.

Status, an Ethereum-based platform that raised $100 million in its initial coin offering in 2017, announced this collaboration on Aug. 20. The new platform aims to leverage the layer-2 technology of the Consensys-backed zkEVM protocol, Linea. As part of this agreement, Status will also become the first contributor to Linea’s open-source code.

What is Status Network?

According to Status, the new layer-2 rollup solution Status Network aims to offer infrastructure that integrates the messaging platform’s mobile and desktop apps. The L2 will also connect to the Ethereum ecosystem and support SocialFi and GameFi.

The platform will also provide an environment for governance experiments and integrate the Status voting system among other features.

Cyprien Grau, a core contributor at Status, stated the β€œultimate goal is to scale Ethereum horizontally.”

According to Grau, the partnership and rollout of the L2 Status Network will boost interoperability and aid in Ethereum’s scaling as a leading layer-1 network.

The collaboration will also bolster Linea’s ecosystem, particularly in driving further its decentralization.

β€œOur collaboration with Status is a natural fit, given their significant contributions to core Ethereum operations and their strong consumer-facing focus through the Status app,” Nicolas Liochon, global lead at Linea, said.

Operating Status Network alongside Linea is expected to unlock new opportunities for users within the Status ecosystem, further enhancing the platform’s capabilities and reach.
