Siemens and Sony have joined forces to create a cutting-edge metaverse-focused headset set to launch in 2024. This collaboration between the German multinational technology giant Siemens and Sony is geared towards industrial applications, catering specifically to professional designers and engineers.

In an interview with CNBC, Siemens CEO Roland Busch highlighted that the new mixed-reality headset, integrated with artificial intelligence, is aimed at boosting productivity for creators and manufacturers. The device, complemented by Siemens’ software suite, including cut and 3D software, is tailored for professional designers rather than gamers.

The collaboration also involves leveraging resources from NVIDIA for creating photorealistic images and utilizing Amazon Web Services for the project. The headset, unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip and Sony’s micro OLED displays with a 4K resolution per eye. External accessories like ring and stylus/pointer controllers enable real-time interaction with digital objects.

While Siemens is making its mark in the headset domain through this partnership, Sony has been actively engaged in the metaverse industry. Sony’s partnership with Google and Qualcomm in exploring mixed reality, along with the launch of PlayStation VR 2 for PlayStation 5, demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation in technology. This collaboration with Siemens aligns with the growing interest of major industry players, such as Apple, in the metaverse space.
