Senator Chuck Schumerβs recent βDear Colleagueβ letter notably omitted cryptocurrency from the latest bipartisan agenda, despite his earlier promise to prioritize it this year.
Fox News journalist Eleanor Terrett highlighted that in Schumer’s latest communication to Senate colleagues, he listed several legislative priorities such as rail safety, insulin prices, and artificial intelligence, but left out cryptocurrency.
In his earlier comments at the βCrypto4Harrisβ town hall, Schumer emphasized that passing a bipartisan crypto regulation bill by year-end was achievable. Organized by supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris, the event aimed to engage the crypto community ahead of the November elections.
βMy goal is to get something passed out of the Senate and into law by the end of the year, and I believe we can make that happen. We should strike a balance for crypto between promoting innovation and providing common-sense guardrails.β
During his speech, Schumer stressed that the United States cannot βsit on the sidelinesβ and risk βcrypto going overseas.β Florida Congressman Darren Soto also encouraged Harris to take decisive action on crypto policy at the same event.
The absence of cryptocurrency from Schumerβs latest letter has drawn criticism from some members of the decentralized community. They perceive a lack of genuine commitment to cryptocurrency issues from the Biden-Harris administration.
One user on social media noted that the Vice President herself had not βsaid a word aboutβ cryptocurrency, adding that the actions of her βcolleaguesβ did not reflect a supportive stance. Another user accused the Biden-Harris administration of using crypto-related events merely for political donations without any intention of meaningful engagement.
Despite crypto taking a backseat, Harrisβs campaign is still accepting crypto donations through Coinbase. However, thereβs no mention of digital assets, cryptocurrency, or blockchain on her official website, in line with the Biden administrationβs generally cautious approach to the topic.
Harris has garnered support from prominent pro-crypto Democrats like billionaire Mark Cuban and Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, both key players in the βCrypto4Harrisβ campaign. Nonetheless, sheβs been struggling to maintain momentum among certain user groups, where the odds seem to favor her Republican rival, Donald Trump.
