Roblox CEO Calls for Return to Office Work
Roblox, a strong advocate for the metaverse, is now shifting towards a hybrid work model, combining in-office and remote work. CEO David Baszucki is urging employees to start working from the office in San Mateo by the summer of 2024.
In a corporate letter, Baszucki announced that employees will be expected to work three days in the office, specifically from Tuesday to Thursday. He emphasized that virtual workspaces are not as engaging and productive as physical ones yet, but he believes they will eventually reach that point.
Employees have until Jan. 16, 2024, to decide if they want to continue working under the new rules. Baszucki clarified that not all roles will be required to return to the office, ensuring that essential remote jobs will remain unaffected.
Roblox has not issued a public statement on this shift in policy. For further updates, we have reached out to Roblox for comment.
This change in direction seems contradictory to Roblox’s previous emphasis on the metaverse. The company has actively promoted the metaverse concept in its activities, raising questions about the impact of this new office-focused approach on its metaverse goals.
