SlowMist founder Yu Xian, known as “Cos” on X, has issued a warning to Telegram users about an increase in phishing attacks within the Telegram ecosystem.

In a recent post, Xian highlighted that phishing links and scam bots are easily spread among Telegram users due to the platform’s open-source and free nature. He noted, “the Telegram ecosystem is too free.”

Moreover, Xian pointed out a new method targeting users’ TON wallets using “Anonymous Telegram Numbers.” These numbers function similarly to phone numbers and allow users to create anonymous accounts on Telegram.

The founder of the blockchain security platform also warned that attackers can phish these numbers, potentially leading to the loss of the entire account and any associated wallets. Xian advises users to enable an independent password, such as two-step verification, to enhance security.

Additionally, a user with the X handle “amoy_Lw” criticized the gaming ecosystem built on Telegram, stating that “this gaming ecosystem is in great conflict with Telegram’s development philosophy.” He emphasized that while Telegram’s foundation promotes user privacy, games are attempting to attract people to create activity, which can lead to security vulnerabilities.

It’s not just mini-games on Telegram that have contributed to the rise in scams. Recent reports indicate that scammers have been targeting cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, Bybit, MEXC, and Gate.io, with fake stablecoins on The Open Network (TON).
