An intriguing piece of Bitcoin history is up for auction online, with bids reaching $140,000 for a legal pad bearing the phrase “Buy Bitcoin.” This note gained attention after it was prominently displayed behind former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen during Congressional testimony nearly seven years ago.
The “Buy Bitcoin” sign was created by Christian Langalis, a 22-year-old intern at the Cato Institute and a Bitcoin enthusiast. Despite Langalis being escorted out of the hearing for his act, the artifact is now attracting bids nearing $140,000 in an online auction on Scarce City, a marketplace that uses BTC to sell crypto-related goods.
The auction, described as an “Ink Drawing on Legal Pad,” has already received the largest bid of 2.2 BTC from a user under the alias @BITPAINTCLUB. Langalis expressed his sentiment about the auction, stating, “Bitcoin is flowing. Control is dead.”
The auction is set to conclude on Apr. 24, with the winner being announced at a Bitcoin-themed eatery in New York where Langalis works. The sign is considered one of the few widely-recognized physical Bitcoin artifacts, given the virtual nature of Bitcoin.
This unique piece of Bitcoin history is a testament to the growing influence and significance of cryptocurrencies in the financial world. Don’t miss the opportunity to own a piece of Bitcoin history and showcase your support for the digital currency revolution.
