Metavasio Launches World’s First Web3 Laptop with Integrated Cold Storage

Metavasio, a French electronics giant, has unveiled the world’s first web3 laptop under its Thomson Computing brand. This innovative device is designed to provide users with a secure and seamless experience when interacting with decentralized applications and storing digital assets.

Integrated Cold Storage and Enhanced Security

The laptop features built-in cold storage for digital assets, enabling users to take control of their crypto custody and reduce the risk of theft. According to Metavasio, this feature is particularly important given the significant losses suffered by centralized exchanges in recent years, with over $1.7 billion stolen in 2023 and $3.8 billion in 2022.

The laptop also incorporates a multi-party computation (MPC) framework, a cryptographic protocol that enhances security by distributing private key operations across multiple parties. This eliminates single points of failure and provides an additional layer of protection for users’ digital assets.

Partnership with io.finnet

Metavasio has partnered with io.finnet, a U.S.-based company specializing in secure digital asset infrastructure and advanced cryptographic solutions. This collaboration, formalized in November 2024, has enabled the development of the laptop’s secure and decentralized ecosystem.

Thomson Computing Wallet and Token Ecosystem

The laptop integrates the Thomson Computing Wallet, which is part of an underlying token ecosystem. This ecosystem incentivizes users to engage with decentralized applications and share resources, providing a unique and rewarding experience.

“The Web3 laptop offers a gateway to a decentralized future, empowering users to truly own their digital experiences. More than just a device, it’s designed to help individuals connect, create, and reclaim control of their digital lives.” – Stephan FranΓ§ais, founder & CEO of METAVISIO

Global Presence and Expansion

Thomson Computing, the computing branch of Metavasio, has a strong global presence, with devices sold in over 52 countries and through more than 16,000 physical points of sale. The launch of the web3 laptop follows the completion of a €50 million SAFE financing round in October, which will support Metavasio’s expansion into blockchain technology and hardware innovation.

Trends in Web3 Integration

Recent trends in the tech industry have focused on integrating Web3 capabilities into consumer devices. Other examples of this trend include web3 smartphones, such as Solana Mobiles’ Saga and Seeker, and HTC’s Exodus 1, which features a built-in cryptocurrency wallet and secure enclave.
