NCPPR Seeks to Bring Bitcoin to Meta’s Corporate Treasury

The National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) has submitted a Bitcoin Treasury Shareholder Proposal to Meta Platforms Inc., marking the group’s latest attempt to introduce cryptocurrency into the tech giant’s financial strategy.

Proposal Submission

Ethan Peck, an employee of the NCPPR, submitted the proposal on behalf of his family, following similar attempts to bring Bitcoin to the boardrooms of Microsoft Corp. and Amazon.com Inc.

A #Bitcoin Treasury Shareholder Proposal has been submitted to Meta. The shareholder, Ethan Peck, who is an employee at The National Center for Public Policy Research – the organization that submitted to $MSFT & $AMZN – informed me he submitted on behalf of his family’s shares.

NCPPR’s Bitcoin Push

The Washington, D.C.-based NCPPR has been advocating for Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and economic turbulence. Their efforts are inspired by Michael Saylor, former CEO and current chair of MicroStrategy, who has successfully implemented a Bitcoin-heavy corporate strategy.

Benefits of Bitcoin Adoption

If the NCPPR’s proposal is accepted, Meta and Amazon may allocate a portion of their assets to Bitcoin, citing its fixed supply as an alternative to lackluster corporate bonds. Additionally, Bitcoin ETFs have seen significant growth, with a 100% spike by the end of 2024, outperforming the S&P 500 index and the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF.

Key benefits of Bitcoin adoption:

  • Fixed supply as an alternative to corporate bonds
  • Hedge against inflation and economic turbulence
  • Potential for significant growth, as seen in Bitcoin ETFs and MicroStrategy’s stock

Meta’s Digital Currency Ambition

Meta’s past attempt to launch its own digital currency, Libra, in 2019, demonstrates the company’s interest in the digital currency space. Although the project faced regulatory pushback and ultimately failed, it showcases Meta’s ambition in this area.

Uncertain Future

It remains to be seen whether Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his board will consider the NCPPR’s proposal and make Bitcoin their next big move.
