Google Ads once again promoting a fake version of a crypto website that leads users to a phishing website clone, draining users’ crypto.

Google Ads promoting malware crypto websites through an online advertising platform that displays ads on Google’s search engine results pages.

Threat actors found a way to promote a fake version of Whales Market, an over-the-counter (OTC) crypto platform, as a sponsored ad atop Google search results.

Users are redirected to a fake version of Whales Market, [www.whaels.market], instead of the authentic [www.whales.market] upon interaction.

The clone mimics the legitimate Whales Market website interface, tricking users into linking their digital wallets and draining crypto from victims’ wallets.

This incident adds to a series of similar instances where scammers exploited Google’s platform to promote fraudulent services.

Google has taken legal action against individuals using the Google Play store to deceive people into fake crypto investments.

In early April, Google sued two individuals from China for fraudulent activities related to crypto investments, deactivating 87 fraudulent apps attributed to them over the past four years.

Protect your crypto assets by staying vigilant and avoiding suspicious links or websites promoted through online ads. Stay informed and be cautious while interacting with unknown platforms to prevent falling victim to phishing scams.
