Crypto users are being urged to stay vigilant due to ongoing supply chain attacks targeting the digital asset industry through email newsletters.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino alerted users to a compromised email vendor used by several digital asset service providers. The vendor’s identity has not been disclosed, and investigations are still ongoing.

CoinGecko co-founder and COO Bobby Ong confirmed the same breach. Ardoino and Ong cautioned that a wave of phishing email scams promoting malicious airdrop distributions or token launches might soon target users.

β€œThere is no CoinGecko token being planned, so don’t be duped by the phishing emails,” Ong said. A few users on social media also reported suspicious messages from providers like Binance. Additionally, it has been confirmed that crypto exchange Bitfinex was among the affected companies.

Crypto phishing issues are not new. Like other digital space participants, digital asset users have faced continuous attacks from malicious actors trying to access and steal funds. A similar incident occurred in January when emails from several companies, including Cointelegraph, Trezor, Token Terminal, WalletConnect, and others, were hijacked.

In November, Nansen customers reported phishing emails following a third-party vendor leak. In early 2023, scammers hacked domain registrar Namecheap and targeted MetaMask users with malicious emails.

Experts and security veterans have also called on platforms to tighten their systems against bad actors who exploit users and unsuspecting victims.
