Dubai recently faced severe weather conditions that disrupted the city’s infrastructure while crypto industry leaders gathered for various conferences. Events like Blockchain Life and Token2049 had to adjust schedules due to record-high rainfall levels on Apr. 16, causing traffic complications and delays.
Social media platforms were abuzz with videos showing disruptions in the city and at the conferences. Attendees had to navigate through the rain to reach the venues, leading to humorous posts on social media.
Despite the challenges, a spokesperson for Token2049 assured the media that the storm did not affect travel to Dubai and that the conference would continue as planned.
However, the heavy rainfall did impact the city’s infrastructure, resulting in Emirates airline suspending check-in services for departing passengers and Fly Dubai halting flights from the UAE hub.
In response to the extreme weather, the government issued a red warning, leading to the closure of offices, schools, and banks. Residents were advised to stay indoors and park vehicles in elevated areas to avoid flood-prone areas.
