A member of the National People’s Congress in China has proposed expanding blockchain infrastructure to enhance government services and economic sectors in the country.

During the Two Sessions meeting in Beijing, Dong Jin, a delegate of the National People’s Congress, put forward a formal suggestion to improve China’s blockchain infrastructure and set industry standards.

According to China News Service, the proposal aims to boost government services, supply chains, and trade through the implementation of advanced blockchain solutions.

Jin, who leads a national blockchain research center in Beijing, emphasized the potential of blockchain technology in managing the vast data resources generated by China’s growing digital economy.

Highlighting the development of a blockchain-based system for industries such as maritime transport, supply chain finance, and energy, Jin showcased the versatility of blockchain technology.

Despite the existing ban on cryptocurrency trading and mining, China remains highly interested in blockchain technology and the digital economy. Leading Chinese companies like Alibaba and Tencent are actively involved in blockchain projects.

In a significant move in May 2023, Beijing announced its plans to establish itself as a key innovation center for the web3 industry, underscoring the government’s dedication to utilizing blockchain technology for national progress.
