AirDAO, a community-governed layer one blockchain, recently experienced a hacker attack that resulted in the loss of 126.5 ETH and 41.61 million AMB tokens. The team disclosed this unfortunate event on Mar. 21, revealing that the hacker attack led to a loss of 35.2 million AMB tokens and 125.51 ETH from its AMB/ETH Uniswap pool.
The exact method of the attack remains undisclosed, but the team shared that the hacker gained unauthorized access through a social engineering scam with malicious email attachments posing as one of their known partners. However, it’s important to note that this theft only affected the liquidity pool and did not impact users’ funds on the AirDAO blockchain or exchanges.
To expedite the recovery process, AirDAO has offered the hacker a white hat hacking fee of 10% if the stolen funds are returned promptly. If cooperation is not received, the team is prepared to involve law enforcement in identifying the hacker and retrieving the stolen funds.
According to PeckShield, the stolen funds have been transferred to various centralized exchanges, including MEXC, KuCoin, and ChangeNOW. Some part of the stolen funds also made their way to Binance and BitMart. As of now, these platforms have not issued public statements regarding the incident.
Established in 2022, AirDAO is a community-governed blockchain that operates an ecosystem of web3 decentralized applications powered by its blockchain network, AMB-NET, and its native token, AMB. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity in the cryptocurrency space.
