Arbitrum Launches Gaming Catalyst Program to Boost Web3 Gaming Development

Arbitrum, a Layer-2 blockchain network, recently introduced the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP) to enhance its Web3 gaming ecosystem. The GCP aims to allocate 200 million ARB tokens over a two-year period to support developer onboarding and gaming development on the Arbitrum network.

The primary objective of the GCP is to establish a thriving gaming ecosystem on Arbitrum and position the network as the preferred choice for game developers. The program focuses on attracting and supporting high-quality builders to drive ecosystem growth. Following the initial rollout, the plan is to transition into a more comprehensive, long-term gaming initiative.

At the current valuation, 200 million ARB tokens amount to approximately $426 million. The allocated funds will be utilized for co-investing in promising studios and games, with the goal of positioning Arbitrum as a leader in on-chain gaming. Key performance indicators for the project include receiving 200 to 300 builder applications, having a significant percentage of Web3 games built on Arbitrum, launching 25 new Orbits, and attracting more migrations to Arbitrum compared to other Layer-2 networks.

If approved, 40 million ARB tokens will be designated for infrastructure bounties to support gaming within Arbitrum. These bounties will be awarded on a project basis for developing tools and infrastructure essential for gaming operations on the network.

The launch of the GCP coincides with an upcoming ARB token unlock scheduled three days later. Arbitrum plans to unlock 673.5 million tokens, valued at around $1.34 billion, for its team and advisors as part of a scheduled token release event on March 16.
