BNB Smart Chain has announced a major upgrade, BEP 336, inspired by Ethereum’s EIP 4844. This upgrade aims to reduce transaction costs and enhance network performance for BNB Chain users. The introduction of “Blob-Carrying Transactions” (BlobTx) will allow for the temporary storage of large data chunks up to 128 KB in a cost-effective manner, simplifying the transaction verification process.

The upgrade includes a blob market and a precompile contract to regulate blob storage and transmission costs based on network demand, as well as add an extra layer of security by verifying data in blobs against their references in transactions. BEP 336 also features a dynamic gas pricing mechanism for blobs and a unique token burn mechanism to meet the specific needs of BSC.

The rollout of BEP 336 will happen in phases, starting with the testnet in April, followed by a Magnet phase in May for further testing and optimization. The upgrade is scheduled to go live on the BSC mainnet in June through a hard fork. This development aligns with Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade going live on the mainnet, showcasing the continuous advancement in blockchain technology.
