Relai, a Swiss-based Bitcoin-only app, is now offering Lightning payment functionality through its integration with Blockstream’s Greenlight solution. This collaboration allows Relai’s 100,000 users to make low-cost Bitcoin payments using the Lightning Network while retaining control of their private keys.

Greenlight, launched by Blockstream in June 2023, provides a Lightning-as-a-service solution that leverages Blockstream’s infrastructure. This approach ensures user control over private keys, unlike custodial solutions that compromise security and privacy for convenience.

With Greenlight, users can split Lightning nodes into smaller components, enabling private key operations on the user’s device while the rest of the node functions on Blockstream’s infrastructure. This design, similar to hardware wallets, prioritizes security and privacy while maintaining operational efficiency.

Relai, founded in 2020, focuses solely on Bitcoin trading and custody. The app has seen significant trading volume, exceeding $300 million over the past four years. The decision to integrate Lightning payments aligns with the trend of major exchanges, like Coinbase, enhancing their Bitcoin payment capabilities.

Coinbase, one of the largest exchange operators in the US, announced its plans to integrate Bitcoin Lightning payments in September 2023. This move reflects the growing importance of Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency ecosystem and aims to facilitate faster and cheaper BTC transactions.

As the cryptocurrency landscape evolves, solutions like Greenlight offer users a secure and efficient way to access the Lightning Network for seamless Bitcoin transactions. Stay updated with more news and insights on Global Crypto News for the latest developments in the world of cryptocurrencies.
