Binance announced on October 1 that it will implement a new β€œrisk warning” banner and pop-up notification for several tokens on its platform.

Tokens Receiving the β€˜Risk Warning’ Tag

Binance has identified 10 tokens that will carry the β€œrisk warning” tag. These include:

  • IOTA (IOTA)
  • Chiliz (CHZ)
  • Enjin Coin (ENJ)
  • Travala
  • Orion
  • Lisk
  • Metal DAO
  • Self Chain
  • Solar
  • Vanar Chain

Purpose of the β€˜Risk Warning’ Banner

The β€œrisk warning” banner and pop-up notification aim to inform users about significant changes in the tokenomics of these tokens. Binance has already been applying a monitoring tag to tokens with high volatility, but this new measure responds to community feedback.

β€œTo gain trading access to tokens marked with significant tokenomics changes, users will first need to acknowledge the pop-up notification,” Binance stated.

Recent Tokenomic Changes

All 10 tokens have undergone notable changes in their tokenomics and supply over the past 18 months. For example, Binance recently supported an upgrade and rebrand for Orion, changing its total supply from 92,631,255 ORN to 238,888,888 LUMIA. Similarly, Chiliz updated its tokenomics earlier this year, adjusting the annual inflation rate of the CHZ token.

Going forward, Binance will apply similar warnings to any projects that significantly alter their tokenomics to increase supply.

Enhanced Compliance Measures

In recent months, Binance has focused on enhancing its risk management and compliance measures. This latest move aligns with the exchange’s earlier steps, such as applying a monitoring tag to several coins, including Monero (XMR) and Zcash (ZEC).

These measures come in the wake of regulatory challenges that led to a $4.3 billion settlement with U.S. authorities in 2023. Binance also faces a lawsuit from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Meanwhile, Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao was recently released from jail after a four-month imprisonment.
