Nearly 20% of Russians have used cryptocurrency, while 66% are aware of it but lack detailed knowledge, according to a recent survey.

Rising Cryptocurrency Awareness in Russia

A survey conducted by a local financial marketplace and reported on September 30 reveals that nearly one-fifth of Russians have engaged with cryptocurrency. The survey included 1,200 respondents aged 18 and older from across Russia, indicating a gradual uptake of crypto among Russian consumers. Over 20% reported some experience with crypto, while almost 80% have never used it. However, 15% of those who haven’t used cryptocurrency expressed interest in adopting digital assets in the future.

Motivations for Using Cryptocurrency

Among those who have tried cryptocurrency, 63% indicated they did so out of curiosity. Another 19% used it for savings or investment purposes, and only 2% reported regular crypto usage. Despite growing awareness, nearly 90% of respondents do not currently hold any cryptocurrency.

Crypto Holdings Among Russians

Of the minority who do hold cryptocurrency, 6% reported having less than 10% of their savings in crypto. Only 4% of respondents have up to half of their assets in digital form.

Government Interest in Digital Assets

Russia’s evolving relationship with cryptocurrency is noteworthy, especially as the government explores the use of digital assets for foreign trade, particularly in industries with potential military applications.

In mid-September, Russia formed a focus group to address challenges faced by importers dealing with dual-use goodsβ€”items with both civilian and military applications that are subject to strict international payment restrictions.

The survey highlights the growing curiosity and cautious approach among Russians towards cryptocurrency, reflecting a significant potential for future adoption.
