Top Democratic donors are advocating for Kamala Harris to speak at an upcoming U.S. crypto conference as her Republican counterpart shows support for the crypto industry.
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is reportedly being urged to attend a crypto conference in the United States this fall. This push follows pro-crypto remarks made by former President Donald Trump at a recent event in Nashville, Texas.
According to a report published on July 30, significant Democratic donors are encouraging crypto media firm Blockworks to book Kamala Harris for the upcoming crypto conference, Permissionless III, scheduled from Oct. 9-11 in Salt Lake City. Blockworks founder Jason Yanowitz mentioned that the company is being βpushed by some of the biggest Democratic donors to have her [Kamala Harris] be there,β although he did not disclose the identities of those advocating for her presence.
Permissionless III is set to feature prominent figures such as a16z crypto founder Chris Dixon, Galaxy Digital CEO Michael Novogratz, and Republican Tom Emmer. Yanowitz indicated that Blockworks aims to foster a more bipartisan environment at this yearβs conference, in contrast to the βRepublican-heavyβ tone of the Bitcoin 2024 event.
In mid-July, a16z founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz endorsed former President Donald Trump and announced plans to donate to PACs supporting him. Meanwhile, Democratic megadonor Novogratz appears to support Harris, suggesting that her candidacy will make the race βa lot tougherβ for Trump.
Iβm sorry, but you donβt get to just screw our industry over for 4 years, push operation choke point, enlist Gensler and Warren as your Champions, and then just pretend youβre hip with Bitcoin.
Harrisβ stance on crypto remains publicly undisclosed but has been a topic of conversation in the industry since President Biden announced he was dropping out of the election race this fall. On July 24, Bitcoin Magazine CEO David Bailey claimed β citing an unnamed βmajor Democrat donorβ β that Kamala Harris had privately referred to Bitcoin as βmoney for criminals.β
This weekend, reports emerged that members of Harrisβ campaign team had contacted several leading U.S. crypto companies, including Coinbase, Circle, and Ripple Labs, in an effort to βreset relationsβ with the industry.
