Helio has introduced a new Solana Pay plugin to facilitate cryptocurrency payments for millions of Shopify merchants. The Web3 payments firm announced the update, emphasizing broader token support, enhanced loyalty programs, and seamless integration for users.

Helio’s Upgraded Solana Pay Plugin

Helio reports that there are currently over 350,000 active unique wallets and more than 5,000 merchants utilizing their services. The latest update to the Solana Pay plugin aims to enable millions of Shopify merchants to accept crypto payments across a wide range of digital assets.

With this upgrade, Shopify merchants using the Solana Pay plugin can now accept cryptocurrency payments, benefiting from real-time conversion and settlement via stablecoins such as Circle’s USDC and EURC, and PayPal’s PYUSD. The plugin also supports Ondo Finance’s tokenized note USDY. Additionally, Solana Pay integrates with popular wallets like Phantom, Solfire, Coinbase, and OKX.

Helio believes the update has the potential to onboard millions of merchants to crypto commerce, significantly impacting e-commerce payments.

Enhancements to the user experience and customer loyalty programs are key components of this growth. Solana is a blockchain network well-suited for this expansion.

Benefits for Merchants

“Crypto holders represent a rapidly growing global consumer segment, with over 100 million active wallets. Solana, with its low fees and fast transactions, is ideal for consumer payments,” stated Stijn Paumen, co-founder & CEO of Helio. “Shopify merchants can now easily reach this audience by installing Solana Pay in a few simple clicks to accept USDC and hundreds of other digital assets at low fees. Enabling the largest e-commerce platform to accept faster-than-card crypto payments is a significant step towards the mass adoption of crypto payments,” Paumen added.

The adoption of the plugin has grown alongside the Web3 payments industry, especially within the stablecoins market. The update introduces advanced features such as NFTs, loyalty programs, and digital receipts, which are likely to drive further interest.

Helio reports that Solana Pay, which allows Shopify merchants to accept low-fee crypto payments (0.75% fee), processed nearly $50 million in transactions in its previous version. These transactions spanned 200 stores, with merchants saving over $1 million in fees.

Brands currently utilizing the new Solana Pay plugin include Helium Mobile and FSL (STEPN GO, MOOAR).
