Telegram, a popular messaging app with 800 million monthly users, has experienced significant growth in its ‘mini apps,’ attracting millions of users daily.

A Telegram ‘mini-app’ (TMA) is an online application built and run directly within the messenger. The platform provides a web3 gateway with TON SDK, an open-source protocol connecting wallets and apps via TON Connect. It offers various monetization options such as advertising, subscription models, in-app purchases, bot interaction, and community development for developers.

Last week’s buzz was Notcoin (NOT), a mini-app that gained international popularity after being listed on several crypto exchanges. Around five million tokens were claimed in the first 36 hours of trading.

Another mini-app gaining traction is Hamster Kombat, a “crypto exchange CEO simulator game.” Players increase their exchange income by buying upgrade cards, completing quests, and inviting friends. The game reflects real-life tasks and challenges faced by CEOs, from hiring to compliance.

Launched on March 26, Hamster Kombat has quickly amassed 19 million daily active users and nearly 2.9 million new users in one day. The game’s growth is driven by its engaging plot, referral system, and rewards. The community is highly active, often creating their own content and campaigns without the need for a marketing budget.

“We recently received a photo of a QR code printed and posted on a lamppost, beneath which was the referral link of one of our players,” the company shared. “Users are also promoting their channels through paid advertisements and competing for top spots on the leaderboard.”

Other Telegram mini apps, like Notcoin, have also contributed to the game’s popularity. The developers recognize that there are no web3 elements in the game currently, but they plan to integrate them in the future. They are negotiating with major crypto exchanges about listing the game’s coin, which users will be able to use within the game.

Telegram’s popularity as a platform for web3 games and the crypto community is attributed to its secure communication and community-building capabilities. Crypto projects use Telegram to communicate directly with users, make announcements, and host events like AMA sessions and webinars.

Mini apps are an effective tool to engage the crypto audience due to their access to various services such as cryptocurrency wallets, crypto games, and exchanges. They offer transparency, security, and the ability to carry out different marketing campaigns directly to users.
